In order to answer some of the questions you might have, we are posting our trouble shooting section of the software

Problem: During the scan the following error occurs:- A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:C02A27A8 in VXD VWIN32(05) +000012DO.

Solution: The card may have a corrupted file system structure that is causing this error. Save the images that the scan shows on the card, and then exit Power Photo Recovery. Go to the COMMAND PROMPT) in the system - note, it is very very important that this be done from the command prompt and not the Windows Explorer, My Computer, or any applications that came with the card, camera, or the card reader. Assuming the drive letter of the card in the reader is Z: (do not try the format command with the card in the camera - it will not work), then type in the following at the command prompt:

FORMAT Z:

...and press enter. Not volume label is necessary, so just press enter there too. If you are running Windows 2000 or higher, you may get an error about having to use the /FS switch. In that case, you would type the following at the command prompt:

FORMAT Z: /FS:FAT

...and press enter.

Then close the COMMAND window, and rescan with Power Photo Recovery.

WARNINGS:

NEVER CHOOSE THE DIGITAL MEDIA CARD YOU ARE SCANNING AS THE DESTINATION DRIVE! THIS WILL ERASE ALL RECOVERABLE DATA!

During any of the following solutions, you may be directed to format your digital media. NEVER FORMAT IN CAMERA OR FROM WINDOWS! DO NOT USE THE MEDIA PREP UTILITY.  The format should be completed ONLY from the COMMAND PROMPT or from the RUN BOX. If you are unsure of how to do this  email us at info@powerecovery.com

Media Prep Utilities:
Most Digital Media (CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Sticks) readers come with a utility to prep the media. These utilities are accessible from Windows Explorer, My Computer or from The Start Menu. Once these utilities are run the images that existed on the card prior to the prep are no longer retrievable.

Formatting:
When formatting a card it is recommended that you use the command line formatter in Windows unless you do not wish to recover the images. Do not format the card in the camera, as many cameras do a destructive format, and the data will not be recoverable.

Hard Disk Drives:
While you may see an option for disk drives, and Power Photo Recovery will scan disk drives, the option is available to accommodate cameras that mount as drives. Because of the large amount of images on a hard disk drive and thumb nails created during the recovery it is not recommended that Power Photo Recovery is run on hard disks.

Camera/MP3 Combinations:
Because of the nature of the MP3 Format, images deleted from cameras that support both formats may not be retrievable.
